The Senior Engineer/Project Manager in Renewables, Microgrids, and Battery Storage will provide leadership and support to short and long term initiatives for consulting services in the renewable energy, energy storage, microgrid, and transportation electrification sectors. This includes leading projects that are initiated within the Power Delivery vertical and supporting project teams in other NV5 verticals. This position will serve as a subject matter expert in technology applications and engineering support services across these sectors.

Some of the major tasks include: engineering and technical execution and supervision, business development, client satisfaction, financial management, operations management and technological advancement for the service line. The Sr. Engineer/Project Manager is instrumental in the planning and organization of work associated with renewable energy, energy storage systems, microgrids, and transportation electrification, within Power Delivery and across NV5. You will also provide support in terms of inspirational leadership by attracting, retaining, motivating, and developing high caliber talent. They cultivate a constructive workplace culture that encourages collaboration and teamwork, positive attitude, and provides ongoing improvement to the quality of services provided to clients.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct key initiatives which include: engineering and technical execution and supervision, business development, client satisfaction, financial management, operations management and technological advancement for assigned personnel.
  • Communicate with Group Managers in a clear and timely manner to direct execution of company initiatives and/or changes
  • Establish operational and technical performance targets and monitor achievement toward those targets, taking corrective action when needed.
  • Analyze current operational processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement when necessary.
  • Analyze financial data and work to ensure that the financial goals and objectives are maximized.
  • Collaborate with Power Delivery management and the marketing staff to identify and analyze business development opportunities that are strategically aligned with the Company’s objectives.
  • Cultivate effective relationships with existing and potential key clients. Proactively address any customer satisfaction issues.
  • Drive project profitability in conjunction with Group Managers and other Project Managers by maintaining proper, qualified staffing levels for project delivery within the Discipline.
  • Understand and abide by industry set laws and standards.
  • Aid in the development and training of less experienced personnel and provide information to guide opportunities for advancement.
  • Foster a constructive workplace environment for employees to work.

Additional responsibilities  

  • Identify and develop opportunities in a new marketplace for Power Delivery that align with the Company’s market and service sectors.
  • Establish goals and objectives for the new marketplace.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans that achieve business development goals and objectives.
  • Generate sales leads through prospecting, networking, and leveraging marketing programs developed by the company.
  • Effectively engage internal resources to develop sales strategies, presentations, and plans.
  • Develop key client relationships in this marketplace.
  • Schedule regular meetings with clients to monitor and maintain appropriate client satisfaction levels.
  • Assist with hiring and training of new employees to support the new marketplace and clients.
  • Identify business partners and subcontractors for the mutual pursuit of business opportunities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Experience  

Minimum of 8 years total experience with a consulting engineering firm, utility, EPC contractor, project developer, or vendor in the renewable energy, energy storage, and/or microgrid fields such as engineering, construction, asset management, commissioning, product development, inspections, or related field; three to five years in a technical leadership role (project manager, project engineer, or discipline lead).

For this specific role, the individual must have direct experience in the renewable energy and power delivery industries. This individual should have a strong grasp on the general trajectory of the industry and be aware of current and upcoming industry policy changes that affect renewable energy, storage, microgrids, and vehicle electrification. Familiarity with the standard of quality demanded by power and utility clients is required. This role requires experience with quality assurance checks in order to uphold high internal and external quality standards. This position also requires the ability to view projects and problems from a high level in order to provide clients with the best quality suggestions or solutions. Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional interpersonal skills are required for this position .

Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a combination of a Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated competency in one of the above-mentioned fields.

Licensure and Credentials

Certification or registration in the professional field in which qualified, such as professional engineer registration, is desired but not required (US state or national certification/registration). Ability to obtain registration or certification in additional US states, is desired as well but not required .
