JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
We are looking to add a self-motivated, talented Field Technical Services Technician to perform in-house, phone/email and customer on-site field support activities involving diagnostic troubleshooting, warranty fulfilment activities, field repairs/upgrades, operations & maintenance training. This includes electrical, mechanical, electro/mechanical work. Typical travel will be between 20-60% of the time (varies), on-call evenings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Renewable Energy Certificate/Associates or Technical Degree or equivalent military certification/training with the working knowledge for Solar PV design and a minimum of 2 years of basic DC/AC electrical experience servicing, installing PV or manufacturing low-voltage electronic equipment (preferably NABCEP PV certified)
  • Position requires a responsible, reliable and quick-to-respond technical services professional to provide varied technical support duties for portable, off-grid, solar, solar/wind and solar/hybrid lighting systems. Helps design, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, monitor, operate, maintain, modify equipment and train operating and service personnel.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the following equipment: Off-grid, low voltage electronics, solar and wind power generation, deep-cycle battery systems, MPPT controllers, AC chargers, inverters, converters, relays, electric winches, LP and diesel generators (for backup power generation), design and sizing of solar systems (a plus).
  • Good interpersonal communications using laymen terms and ability to put customers at ease and help them during stressful situations due to equipment failure, a misunderstanding of how to use equipment or user interface.
  • Provide technical support interacting with customers and coworkers at a professional level via phone, email or in person, able to take direction and complete tasks with minimal oversight, able to work independently or in a team.
  • Demonstrated Safe Working Practices, knowledge of OSHA safety standards, able to ID and neutralize hazards
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code and standard design/build practices, Ability to read and understand electrical and electronic schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to use multi-meter and typical electrical and mechanical tools
  • Perform remote on-site field technical support (at customer site), including diagnosing, troubleshooting, root cause analysis of failures, repairing and contributing to continuously improve solar, solar/wind and solar/hybrid (w LP or diesel generators) light towers maximizing up-time.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate with and maintain effective relationships with customers and Progress Solar personnel. Includes use of standard work programs (Word, Excel, Email, Calendar)
  • Ability to create, write and update operator and service manuals and training materials, or write technical bulletins.
  • Assist in creating online training tools and providing user, dealer & internal training.
  • Track VIN#s, manage warranty and parts replacements, shipments, returns and vendor credits
  • Implements preventive maintenance process and keeps performance and maintenance records on equipment.
  • Provide improvement recommendations and support to engineering, R&D, manufacturing, and sales team
  • Organized, able to meet deadlines, attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 75lbs, stand for long periods of time, work in hot or cold weather as needed.
  • Duties require travel 20-60% (varies), on-call accessibility, some after-hours activity
  • Valid driver?s license, clean driving record and dependable transportation required
  • Other duties, as assigned.
