Natural Resources Program / Project Manager Renewable Energy

This is a Full-time position in Columbia, MD posted July 22, 2021.

Versar is seeking a quality-focused Program / Project Manager with experience or interest in renewable energy facility and transmission line environmental impact assessments, who works well as a member of a team, and enjoys technical and scientific challenges. This position may also include leading and managing all aspects of the Columbia offices business performance, including operations management, broad-based multidisciplinary oversight of projects, facilitating team building and training/mentoring junior staff, and participating in client-facing meetings related to project work and marketing. The position is organized under Versars Environmental Services Group (ESG) supporting our Conservation Technical Service Area (TSA) for work primarily with state and local governments, but also federal agencies such as the Department of Defense (DoD), EPA, and NOAA. Responsibilities Technical:Provide technical support for evaluating renewable energy project applications with an emphasis on reviewing environmental aspects related to facility licensing and permittingCommunicate professionally with Maryland’s State contractors, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, generation companies, utilities, and other interested parties during various projectsCoordinate Versar’s review and regulatory analysis of the potential biological impacts of various solar facility, wind, transmission line, and other electric power plant projects in compliance with local, state, and federal policyPerform project delivery activities such as report writing, undertaking and organizing data collection and survey field work, data and literature review, drafting impact analyses, and developing licensing recommendations for clientsLeadership: Manage a team of 10-20 scientists working across several natural resources technical areas Facilitate a positive working environment by enabling professional success through individual and collaborative efforts Champion the professional development of team members at all seniority levels Establish a sense of team at the office and group level by promoting collaboration and communicationIdentify and support opportunities for Columbia staff to lead efforts critical to the overall success of ESG Project Management: Manage the financial performance of projects to meet profitability targetsEngage with project managers to meet and exceed client expectations by providing high quality work on time, within budget, and safely Business Development:Lead and support business development activities for the Columbia team including securing new clients and new work to contribute to office and group-level growth Leverage knowledge and network of clients within the Chesapeake Bay and Mid-Atlantic region to develop new work opportunitiesJob Requirements MS degree with 10+ years of experience in a relevant discipline of the biological or environmental sciences. Interest in environmental policy and legal aspects of licensing energy facilities, including preparing materials for cases before the Maryland Public Service CommissionTechnical background in natural resources, biology, and terrestrial or aquatic sciences a plus Experience in talent management, including managing and leading senior staff and large multi-disciplinary teams Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, scientific, and research abilities Ability to work collaboratively with team members and clients and to manage complex tasks simultaneously Proven track record for developing or expanding programs through client marketing, successful proposal writing, and teaming Familiarity with state, local, and federal contracting U.S. Citizenship or ability to obtain security clearance for work on DoD installations
